Our topic for the evening is “Considering Climate Change in Nepal and the North Shore, Learning From the Connection”. In BC it is often easy to feel isolated from the effects of Climate Change. It may even appear as though it isn’t happening or that it will have minimal impacts on us on the North Shore. That same sentiment is not felt in Nepal. There the very visible effects of climate change foreshadow what we may face here.
This evening with Maxwell Sykes will introduce you to Nepal – a country of joyful people and extreme circumstances that is experiencing some of the strongest effects from climate change in the world. As the situation worsens, impacts are exacerbated by lack of stability in a land of extremes.
Join us as we learn about the fragile situation in Nepal, and what it might teach us about the importance of a strong North Shore community that will help us to utilize our collective strengths to prepare for upcoming changes.
Maxwell Sykes spent time in Nepal doing climate change preparation with monasteries and nunneries in 2009 before returning to work on helping communities, governments, and organizations act more sustainably at HB Lanarc in 2010
