Do you feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of the environmental problems that we are facing? Are you looking for ways to get more connected to your food and your neighbours? The Edible Garden Project is providing tangible, positive ways for North Shore residents to become more engaged in the food system, to participate in redefining that system and to enhance and support the community at the same time. Come and learn how you can join us in growing and sharing fresh local food on the North Shore, create community around healthy eating and have fun in the dirt.
Our speaker, Heather Johnstone, has been working with the Edible Garden Project at the North Shore Neighbourhood House for the past 5 years. After formally training as an archaeologist, Heather shifted her focus to train with organic farmers on the west coast over a number of years. She returned to the city in 2007 to focus on urban agriculture and working with home-scale urban gardeners. She is a member of the board with FarmFolkCityFolk, and the North Shore Community Garden Society, and is inspired by the tremendous interest and enthusiasm that is emerging around the sustainable food movement.
